Meghan Markle’s Suits co-star Wendell Pierce reveals how much she is missed on set

“I remember the last moment I had with her on set, I told her no matter what happens know that you have friends that care about you.”
The Duchess of Sussex’s former Suits co-star Wendell Pierce has told of how much she is missed on set just days after he leapt to her defence over her father’s public outbursts.
Mr Pierce played Meghan’s father in the legal drama before she quit the show earlier this year ahead of her May wedding to Prince Harry.
Speaking at the premiere of his latest TV show, Jack Ryan, Mr Pierce, 54, said: “You work with someone for years and then their journey comes to an end, but she is so fantastically happy and I’m happy for her.
“I remember the last moment I had with her on set, I told her no matter what happens know that you have friends that care about you. I can see that you are truly happy and I wish nothing but the best for you.
“So while she’s missed we are happy for her, because to be a newlywed and have the life that she has is great.”
It comes just days after he criticised her father Thomas Markle over his public outbursts about Meghan and the Royal Family.
Mr Pierce, who stars as Robert Zane in the US TV show, told the Daily Telegraph: “If you care about Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, then that should be first and foremost in your mind before you say anything.
“If you love your daughter, just love your daughter. It’s not for public consumption.”
Mr Pierce has played the role of the father of Rachel Zane, Meghan’s character in Suits, since 2013.
Meghan’s estranged sister Samantha Grant hit back at Mr Pierce for criticising their father.
She tweeted: “And the Suits actor should stick to fiction, because the reality is, she should love and respect our Dad. Diffusion of responsibility.
“People need to ‘stop sucking’ up without understanding the other side of the story.”
Meghan’s father did not attend her wedding to Prince Harry in May after it emerged he staged paparazzi photos “in a bid to recast his image as a loving father”. He said he did not attend the wedding because he was in poor health following a heart attack.
He has since made numerous public outbursts, including one in which he said the Duchess “might be better off if I died”. He has also repeatedly criticised the Royal family for freezing him out and stopping him from contacting his daughter.
Ms Grant has repeatedly criticised Meghan. She accused her of “humiliating their father” with “childish indignance” and labelled her “inhumane” earlier this month. She also called Prince Harry a “wuss”.
Jack Ryan is streaming on Amazon Prime.
