Vondie Curtis-Hall is an American actor, director, screenwriter. He is known as Dr. Dennis Hancock in CBS ‘ medical drama series ‘ Chicago Hope’ and as Ben Urich in Netflix’s series’ Marvel’s Daredevil.’
He is also popular in the black comedy crime movie’ Gridlock’d’ for writing, directing and starring. Born in Detroit, Michigan, Hall grew up with his sister Sherrie and brother, the renowned fashion designer Kevan Hall, to a nurse and a construction company owner. He studied at the Our Lady of Victory School Presentation. He kicked off his career as a stage actor and appeared before signing for film and television roles in a number of plays including the Broadway musical ‘ Dreamgirls. ‘

Vondie Curtis-Hall made his big screen debut with a role in the romantic comedy’ Coming to America’ in 1988. Two years later he was cast in the police drama’ Cop Rock’ as Cmdr. Warren Osborne. Then, following a role in the crime drama flick ‘ One Good Cop,’ he was cast as Joe Clay in the sitcom’ I’ll Fly Away,’ a role he played from 1992 to 1993.
Hall also made the movies ‘ Passion Fish, ” Falling Down ‘ and ‘ Sugar Hill ‘ during this time. He starred in the semi-autobiographical ‘ Crooklyn ‘ as Uncle Brown and in ‘ Drop Squad ‘ as Rocky Seavers. He joined the main cast of the medical drama ‘ Chicago Hope ‘ as Dr. Dennis Hancock in 1995. Two years later, the actor starred in ‘ Gridlock’d ‘ as D – Reper, a crime film that paid tribute to rapper Tupac Shakur who was murdered four months before the release of the film.
Hall began the new millennium with his appearance in the action flick’ Turn It Up.’ He starred in seven episodes of’ ER’ in 2001 and also directed one episode of the show. He featured in the drama ‘ Soul Food ‘ three years later. He also served as the director of the TV movie’ Redemption: The Stan Tookie Williams Story’ that year.
In the years that followed, the American actor made guest appearances in several shows including ‘ Law & Order, ‘ ‘ Fear Itself ‘ and ‘ Criminal Minds ‘ and also directed a few episodes of ‘ Boston Legal ‘ and ‘ Gossip Girl. ‘
Following a role in three episodes of the television drama ‘ Chasing Life,’ Hall played Ben Urich in the 2015 sitcom ‘ Marvel’s Daredevil.’ He also started portraying the character of Beaumont Rosewood Sr. in the police procedural drama series ‘ Rosewood’ the same year. He joined the cast of the legal drama’ For the People’ as Chief Judge Nicholas Byrne in 2018.
