Vic Mignogna Education | Early Life

Victor Mignogna graduated from Liberty University with a degree in television and film production. Victor Mignogna helped produce and arrange DC Talk’s eponymous first album on some of the songs. He taught drama and speech in Jacksonville, Florida and was an officer with the Ocean City Police Department. He moved to Houston, Texas, in 1990, where he was a film and video production instructor at The Art Institute of Houston. Mignogna was a contestant on American television talent show Star Search in 1993, on which he sang “Worth Waiting For”.

Vic Mignogna Career

While working in video production with John Gremillion in Houston, he got involved in voice acting in anime at ADV Films. Mignogna made his debut in the video game based anime series Street Fighter II V as Vega. Victor Mignogna started attending anime conventions, where he contacted Funimation and landed the voice role of Broly in the Dragon Ball films.

The American Anime Awards presented Victor Mignogna with an award for Best Actor for his work on Fullmetal Alchemist in 2007. Mignogna often gains attention for his role in Fullmetal Alchemist and he attends between 15 and 25 conventions each year. One of his career goals was “to record at all of the major places where dubbing is done.” Mignogna said he was “the first ADV voice actor to record at Funimation in Dallas and then I was the first to go to New York”. He has also recorded in Los Angeles; Victor Mignogna tried out for Bleach and received the part of Ikkaku Madarame. He voiced Qrow Branwen in non-anime productions, in the American web series RWBY.

In addition to voice acting, he has been involved in production for music, sound and video. Mignogna has produced hundreds of jingles for commercials and he was a worship leader with Houston’s First Baptist Church. He has sung the U.S. national anthem at several Houston Astros baseball games. Victor Mignogna has released several albums, as a musician, some of which feature English cover versions of anime songs from shows including One Piece and the Dragon Ball series. Mignogna also handled some of the ADR direction for the English dub of Claymore, in which he voices Rigaldo.

Victor Mignogna has been involved with several fan productions, including Star Trek: Phase II and Fullmetal Fantasy. Mignogna co-directed the episode “Enemy: Starfleet” in the latter series and played the Andorian Captain. Victor Mignogna also directed “KITUMBA” and played Malkthon the Klingon and was slated to direct the episode “Mindsifter”. Mignogna worked with the Starship Farragut production group in 2012.

In their web series Star Trek Continues, he directed and starred as Captain Kirk. Victor Mignogna has received many accolades for writing, directing, executive producing and starring in Star Trek Continues, especially for his almost surreal portrayal of the character of James T. Kirk, respectfully utilizing William Shatner’s unique mannerisms and cadence.

Vic Mignogna Funimation | Monica Rial

Anime voice actor Vic Mignogna has filed a million-dollar lawsuit against Funimation and industry colleagues Jamie Marchi, Monica Rial and Ronald Toye in Tarrant County, Texas District Court. In the suit, Mignogna claims that a sexual harassment investigation that ended in his removal from several projects, constitutes defamation, interference in business, and civil conspiracy.

This comes after a wave of misconduct accusations which resulted in Mignogna’s removal from Funimation’s The Morose Mononokean 2 and Rooster Teeth’s RWBY. Allegations first started to surface around the release of Dragon Ball Super: Broly, in which Mignogna voices the title character.

In January, the hashtag #KickVic starte to circulate across social media as both fans and creators shared their encounters with Mignogna. A counter hashtag, #IStandWithVic, started by Mignogna’s fans. The outcry prompted Mignogna to release a public statement denying the claims, but by February, independent investigations had led to his removal from the lineup of nine conventions: Phoenix Fan Fusion, Anime NYC, Kawaiicon, Ancient City Con, Anime Milwaukee, Denver Comicon, Florida Supercon, Raleigh Supercon, Kamicon and Hudson Valley Comicon. Kamehacon Dallas removed Mignogna , but reinstated his appearance on March 24.

Funimation publicly announced On Feb. 11, its investigation into Mignogna’s behavior and removed him from all future projects. This reportedly includes a special feature on the Dragon Ball Super: Broly DVD and Blu-Ray. (Polygon has reached out to Funimation for clarification and further comment on the removals and lawsuit, but the company was unable to provide comment at the time of publish.)

In the lawsuit, Vic claims that Rial, Marchi, and Toye directly interfered in his business affairs and that all the statements they made against him are false. “The repeated attention that Monica, Jamie and even Funimation’s agents, employees or business partners, gave [Twitter user] hanleia’s and Marzgurl’s accusations caused their Tweets to ‘go viral,’” the lawsuit suggests. In the descriptions of the situation, Mignogna’s claim suggests that the defendants have continued “carpet-bombing” him on Twitter, through continued discussion of the allegations.
