Susan Shapiro Biography

Susan Shapiro is an American news anchor who is the solo anchor of News 8 at Noon, and is also the health reporter on the News 8 On Your Side Team. Shapiro started at WGAL in 1981 as a reporter and at various times also anchored the morning and weekend news reports.

Susan Shapiro Education

A native of Philadelphia, Shapiro received her bachelor of arts in journalism from Pennsylvania State University. She then studied British mass media at Manchester University in England.


Prior to joining the News 8 staff, Shapiro was an anchor and reporter at WTAJ-TV in Altoona, Pa. She has also worked as a research assistant for Philadelphia Magazine.

Shapiro has received numerous awards and honors for her reporting which include a 1992 Emmy Award for spot news, a 2005 Mid-Atlantic Region Emmy for individual achievement for feature reporting, a number of Associated Press Broadcasters Awards and a Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters Award for her investigative report on puppy mills.

Shapiro is on the Board of Governors of the Philadelphia Regional Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, a past member of the board of Lancaster County Safe Kids and a current member of the board of the Rocky Springs Carousel Association.

She is also one of the hosts of the Children’s Miracle Network Telethon on WGAL-TV. She also helps promote the March of Dimes Walk America and the American Heart Walk.
