Roderick Spencer Biography
Roderick Spencer is an American social activist, producer, screenwriter, and former actor. He married actress Alfred Woodard in 1983 after being introduced by his college drama professor. He is most commonly known for being married to the versatile award-winning actress, Alfred Woodard despite his personal successes.

Spencer is the youngest of three kids born to his parents, Louisa(mother) and Duncan(father). His two older sisters are Leslie and Louisa. He also has three older step-siblings from his dad’s first marriage; Margaret, Duncan, and Josephine.

Roderick attended the college preparatory St. Mark School in Southborough, Massachusetts from 1971 to 1976. Spencer refers to his five years at the school as the most vivid, desperate, and strange time in his life. He went on to study at Colorado College in 1977 and graduated in 1981.

He was teaching screenwriting and directing at Emerson College’s Los Angelos campus, and was a visiting lecturer at his alma mater, Colorado College, teaching writing for performance.
Spencer was also on the board of the nonprofit organization The Unusual Suspects, which brings theater training to youth in foster group homes, gang intervention programs, and juvenile detention centers in Los Angeles.
He became a writer, producer, and part-owner at Miss Maglashan productions in 2001 in Santa Monica, California. He wrote the screenplay for the book-adapted film, “Juanita” more recently to premiere on Netflix in 2019.
