She began her career as a producer for the WKBN-TV station in 1996. She spent a little over 1 year working at the station before leaving in early 1997. After leaving WKBN-TV, she joined KFXB-TV and worked as a reporter for a few months before leaving in 1998. Rena joined WKOW-TV the same month that she left KFXB-TV. For around the next 4 years, she worked as a reporter and news anchor, covering various local and national breaking news bulletins. She was based in Madison, Wisconsin.

Rena spent some time working in Dubuque, Iowa at FOX 40 before joining the WITI-TV team as a news anchor and reporter in Milwaukee. In September of 2005, she moved from WITI-TV station and joined KARE-TV. She has been working for KARE-TV as a reporter and weekend anchor for well over a decade now and is still going strong. In 2012, she was awarded a National Edward R. Murrow Award and she has also won a few regional Emmy awards for her reporting and top notch anchoring.
