In July of 2015, Natasha was selected for a position at KGO-ABC7 News in San Francisco, where she will serve as both a reporter and an anchor. Natasha slipped on the liquid and fell to the ground when she attempted to charge her wireless microphone a little while later. The back of the head “hardly” made contact with the concrete floor.
During the newscast that aired on Monday morning, she spoke out about the injuries she had sustained while fighting back tears. She has stated that “in all honesty, she had no concept of what was to come.” Natasha went to the emergency room after suffering from great sensitivity to light, enduring bouts of uncontrollable vomiting, and seeing some loss of short-term memory. There, doctors diagnosed her with a severe concussion.
Natasha described her condition during an on-air broadcast on KGO, saying, “I was very photophobic and queasy.” “I experienced severe headaches, as if an ice pick were stuck in my head, that no medication seemed to be able to relieve; all I could do was sit in the dark for hours at a time, pray that it would end, and do this every day… I seriously doubted that things would ever return to normal for me.”
She had no sense of smell or taste, which was maybe the most troubling symptom. All of this culminated in a state that she describes as “extremely frightening,” which was a striking departure from the professional high point she had reached just a few weeks earlier when she was awarded two Emmys.
After a number of months, she moved back in with her parents so that she could get well there.
Natasha has returned to her position as an anchor with a “new awareness for how delicate, complicated, and precious our minds are.” According to NPR, a significant number of people who do not participate in sports have suffered a concussion; some of those who do suffer a concussion may not even be aware that they have suffered one.
Natasha adds, “It’s been a long road requiring a lot of therapy and re-training — but with time and the aid of a truly fantastic team of doctors, I’m pleased to report that I’m doing so much better.” “It’s been a long journey with a lot of treatment and re-training,” Natasha writes. “As a result of the fact that I was raised in the Bay Area and that both of my parents watched ABC7 when I was a child, this has always been so much more than simply a job to me. I have been given the all-clear, and I cannot express how relieved I am to be home.”
