Wilson’s acting career started back in 1994 having a lead role in the short film Bottle Rocket. The movie was co-written by his older brother Owen Wilson and Wes Anderson as director. In 1996, It was remade as a feature-length film. He co-starred with Calista Flockhart in Telling Lies in America after moving to Hollywood. He also appeared in the film-within-the-film of Scream 2, both in 1997.
In 1998, Wilson starred in Best Men alongside Drew Barrymore a film about a group of friends who pull off a heist on their way to a wedding, and the movie Home Fries, about two brothers interested in the same woman for different reasons. Still the same year, he had a role of a physician Schoolteacher in Rushmore also co-written by brother Owen and directed by Anderson. In 1999 he featured in movie Blue as detective Carlson and in 2001 he played opposite Reese Witherspoon in the comedy Legally Blonde. Wilson also had a role as Michael Kelso’s older brother Casey Kelso on That ’70s Show.
In 2006, Wilson starred in Idiocracy a film by Mike Judge. In early 2007, Wilson starred in thriller Vacancy with co-star Kate Beckinsale. In 2009 he starred in the film Tenure and movies Death at a Funeral and Middle Men in 2010. He has also starred in the HBO TV series Enlightened and c0-written Wright Brothers biopic with his brother Owen, in which they also plan to star.
