‘Today’ reporter Jill Rappaport sued by ex Richard Swift over Hamptons vacation home deal gone bad
“Today” entertainment reporter Jill Rappaport is being sued by her former fiance over what he says is a dirty deal on a vacation home in the Hamptons.
Investment banking big Richard Swift, whose 10-year relationship with Rappaport ended last June, contends his ex and her mom have shut him out of their 11-room, seven-bathroom spread in Water Mill.
“Mr. Swift spent $2.6 million to build a house and Ms. Rappaport decided she would keep it,” said Robert Bodian, a lawyer for Swift. “The law of the state of New York does not support this.”
Rappaport, the best friend of supermodel and Hamptons fixture Christie Brinkley, met Swift through mutual friends in 2000 and they got engaged two years later.
She then proposed they build a vacation home on Hampton’s land she owned with her mother, the suit says.
“Jill Rappaport suggested: “We’ll be partners. You’ll contribute the cash. I’ll contribute the land,” says the suit filed in Manhattan Supreme Court.
“She encouraged (Swift) to enter the economic venture so that (he) would have ‘someplace big to own’ for his kids.”
In court papers, Swift concedes the agreement was “not reduced to writing,” but adds that he and his ex had “numerous discussions” which acknowledged the pact.
A message for Rappaport was left with a “Today” spokeswoman.
According to the suit, Rappaport and her mom paid $142,500 in 1996 for the property on which the home was built.
A 2007 Architectural Digest article about the Western-themed home says Rappaport decorated it with Navajo rugs, elk chandeliers and a Western village populated with mannequins she picked up on eBay.
Rappaport, who has served as the “Today” entertainment correspondent for 20 years, contends the house was a “gift” from Swift.
The Architectural Digest profile says she also kept a saloon named “Swifty’s” in the home as a nod to her then-love. Adapted from daily news .com

The small, private ceremony was attended by Lauer’s big league colleagues, Katie Couric, Ann Curry, Jill Rappaport, as well as executive producer Jeff Zucker, ABC News correspondent Elizabeth Vargas, and actor Peter Gallagher.
While everything looked rosy in the beginning, cracks in their marriage began to show. When she was pregnant with their third child, Roque filed for divorce in 2006. The court documents revealed shocking details.
Roque cited cruel and inhuman treatment by Lauer. His behavior allegedly “endangered the physical and mental well-being” of Annette.
The court documents also said that Lauer disregarded family obligations and neglected their children making Roque feel “abandoned, isolated, and alone in raising the parties’ children.”
However, in a puzzling turn of events, Roque withdrew her request for the divorce and reconciled with Lauer in less than a month of filing! The couple has been together since then.
