Jamie Farr (full name: Ameel Joseph Farah), is an American actor and comedian. His most popular performance in the CBS television sitcom ‘ M*A*S*H’ is like Maxwell Q. Klinger.
A native of Ohio, Farr has been acting since he was a child. He was spotted by a talent scout representing Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer while affiliated with the prestigious Pasadena Playhouse. He then made his screen debut in the crime-drama film’ Blackboard Jungle’ of 1955, in which he portrayed the mentally challenged student Santini.

Credited by his real name, Jameel Farah, Jamie Farr played Santini’s role in the crime drama film ‘ Blackboard Jungle ‘ in 1955. The film, directed by Richard Brooks, tells the story of an English teacher joining an inner-city school with violent and unruly students.
After working in the’ Blackboard Jungle,’ Farr left the entertainment industry to serve in the U.S. Army for a period. His service lasted two years, during which he was stationed both in Korea and in Japan. Besides Alan Alda, he is the only cast member ‘ M-A-S-H’ to have served in the U.S. military. Additionally, during the show’s filming, Farr wore the real dog tags from his army days.
Despite earning much critical praise for his first role, as an aspiring actor, Farr experienced his share of struggles. In the early days of his career, he played a variety of small roles, including a delivery person, a post office clerk, an army store clerk, an airlines reservation agent, and as an employee at a chinchilla ranch.
