Jacqui Jeras Biography

Jacqui Jeras is a renowned meteorologist in Atlanta, Georgia. Jeras is currently working as a freelancer for The Weather Channel, CNN Network, and Nasa’s Unexplained files.  She developed a passion for the weather while growing up as a result of the wide range of weather patterns in Minnesota. Jacqui is always passionate about everything related to the weather, space, and environment. She fondly calls herself, a weather geek.

She grew up in Minnesota. Her sister is Janelle. Jeras is an outdoor enthusiast.  She loves mountain biking, hiking, gardening, running, playing kickball with the kids, or doing cartwheels in her yard.

Jacqui is married to her college boyfriend Mike. Mike is a pilot. Mike graduated from Iowa State University as an Aerospace Engineer and is also an Outstanding Young Alumnus Award Winner. Jacqui and Mike have two children, Aurora and Ashton. They named their daughter Aurora after the Northern Lights, Aurora Borealis. Their son, Ashton is an athlete and his mother’s biggest fan.

Jeras studied for her undergraduate degree Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Mass Communication at Iowa State University. Jacqui graduated in 1992. She later received her Certificate of Broadcast Meteorology at Mississippi State University. She also holds a seal of approval from the American Meteorological Society and the National Weather Association (NWA). Jacqui is the NWA Councilor and Broadcast Committee, Recertification Chair, and Seal Evaluation Panel.

Jacqui has worked for a couple of years. Among the places, she has worked with is the Weather Channel, CNN, and Nasa Unexplained files. Jeras started her career as a fill-in anchor and a senior reporter at KCAU-TV. She left KCAU-TV and joined WEHT-TV as a weekend weather anchor and a weekday reporter. WEHT-TV is in Evansville, Indiana. After she left WEHT-TV, she went to WHO-TV in Des Monies, Lowa as a morning and midday meteorologist. In 1998, Jacqui served as a councilor for the Lowa Chapter of the National Weather Association.

She got her dream job at CNN after leaving WHO-TV in 1999. At CNN, she was the weather anchor where she forecasted, researched, and reported her findings on weather and science. She left CNN in 2012.

Jeras worked with WJLA as their on-camera meteorologist on Good Morning Washington for four years. WJLA is an ABC affiliate in Washington. She also worked as a production assistant for a TV show, Jannus Live in Tampa Bay, Florida. Jacqui currently works as a freelance meteorologist for The Weather Channel, CNN Networks, and Nasa’s Unexplained files. as a result of being a freelance meteorologist, she is able to assist as a local weather anchor fill-in.

Jeras did a preventable double mastectomy in 2013. Mastectomy is the removal of the whole breast which can be total(simple), modified radical, radical, partial, or subcutaneous (nipple-sparing). She comes from a family with a history of breast cancer. Her sister Janelle, has battled breast cancer. Janelle was diagnosed with stage 3 cancer. Their mother and aunts are breast cancer survivors. Jeras grandmother died of breast cancer. Jacqui’s family has no BRCA1 or BRCA2.
