Derek Hough Biography

Derek Hough is an American professional Latin and ballroom dancer, choreographer, actor and singer.

From September 2007, Derek became popular for his work on the ABC dance-competition series, Dancing with the Stars, on which he has won a record six seasons. With a total of nine nominations, he has won two Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Choreography for several routines that he choreographed for the show.

Derek has also starred in various stage productions, including the 2006 original production of Footloose: The Musical at the Novello Theatre in London’s West End, as well as the 2015 New York Spring Spectacular at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. In 2013, he starred in Make Your Move, a Romeo and Juliet-inspired South Korean-American independent dance film. As of 2014, he has held a recurring acting role on ABC’s musical-drama, Nashville.

Derek played the role of Corny Collins in NBC’s live musical TV-production, Hairspray Live! on December 7, 2016.

Derek joined the judges table in NBC’s new dance competition series World of Dance in May 2017. He continued his role as a judge for the second and third seasons.

Derek was born in Sandy, Utah, a suburb of Salt Lake City. He is the fourth of five children in a Latter-day Saint (Mormon) family.

His parent are Marianne and Bruce Hough, who was twice chairman of the Utah Republican Party. He has four sisters, Sharee, Marabeth, Katherine, and Julianne. Derek’s grandparents were all dancers, and his parents met while on a ballroom dancing team in college in Idaho. He has two second cousins both musicians Riker, Rydel, Rocky, and Ross Lynch from R5, their maternal grandmothers are sisters.

His divorcing parents sent him to London to live and study with dance coaches Corky and Shirley Ballas when he was 12 years old. several months later his sister Julianne joined him in London. Originally Derek was intending to stay for a year, but remained in London for ten years. Her sister returned after five years.

Alongside their own son, Mark Ballas the Ballases helped tutor the two Hough children, schooling them at the Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts. They were trained in song, theater, gymnastics, and many forms of dance, including jazz, ballet, and tap. The three children formed their own pop music trio 2B1G (“2 Boys, 1 Girl”) and performed at dance competitions in the UK and the U.S., and showcased UK television shows.In spit of being trained in many forms of dance, Derek can also play the piano, guitar and drums.

Subsequently Derek taught at the Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts.

Is Derek Hough Gay

There were rumors that Derek is a gay he was very close to playing a gay character “in a funny little scene” with Courteney Cox on her new hit ABC series Cougar Town. However due to, his Dancing With the Stars schedule he couldn’t do it.

“It would have been perfect,” Hough said. “With all the rumors going around, I thought it would be really funny because it’s just not true. But I was like, you know what? If that’s what you want to see.”

Hough made his first appearance on Dancing with the Stars in season four (week 6) as a guest instructor with Julianne and Apolo Anton Ohno.[30] He then joined the cast of professional instructors in season five and was paired with Jennie Garth. Hough and Garth were eliminated in the semi-finals finishing the competition in fourth place.

Watch Derek Hough and His Mom Dance Into the Weekend in This Sweet Video

Derek and his mom Mari Anne Hough shared  a sweet mother-son moment in his latest social media post. On Friday, 29, 2019 the Hough took to social media to share a video of him and his mom dancing together. In the video, you can see Mari Anne watching Derek at his tour rehearsals. Then, as the song “Do You Love Me” starts playing, Derek dances over to his mom and reaches out for her to join him.

As the song comes to an end, an excited Mari Anne can be seen clapping her hands and hugging Derek. The duo then continues to dance as “My Girl” starts to play.As Derek twirls his mom around, the look on her face is pure joy.
“Nothing like having your mom pop into rehearsals and giving her a twirl,” Derek captioned the video, adding the hashtags #mygirl #thetour.
