Dan + Shay Biography

Dan + Shay is an American county music duo composed of vocalists and songwriter Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney. They are currently signed to Warner Bros. Nashville. The duo has released three albums, Where It All Began, Obsessed, and Dan + Shay.

These albums have accounted for a total of nine singles, of which five have topped the Country Airplay chart and two have topped the Hot Country Songs chart. In addition to their own material, the group’s members have collaborated with Rascal Flatts, Lindsey Stirling, RaeLynn, and Kelly Clarkson among others.

Dan Smyers

He was born and raised in Wexford, Pennsylvania, where he attended North Allegheny Senior High School. He thereafter attended Carnegie Mellon University to study finance. He played football at the University.

Shay Mooney

James Shay was born on December 27, 1991, in Natural Dam, Arkansas. He attended Union Christian Academy and Van Buren High School. He later attended  Valley Forge Christian College for one year before completely pursuing his music career.

From January 2012- March 2013 he was in a relationship with country singer Veronica Ballestrini. Mooney and Smyers song “Nothin’ Like You” is about Ballestrini. Mooney and Billingsley got married on October 20, 2017, in Arkansas.

Dan + Shay Background

After meeting in Nashville in 2012, Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney joined forces to bring you Dan+Shay, and their debut album Where it all Began was released in 2014 and included the hit single “19 You and Me.” They would go on to create two more albums including Obsessed and the self-titled Dan+Shay.

These albums would produce four Billboard Country Airplay No. 1 hits. In 2019, Dan+Shay won a Grammy for Best Country Duo/Group Performance with their hit “Tequila.” Amidst their first headlining tour, aptly dubbed The Tour, this year, Dan+Shay shows no signs of slowing down which keeps their contemporary country music fans singing “Nothin’ Like You.”

Dan + Shay In popular culture

Dan + Shay song “Stop Drop + Roll” was featured on the Nashville season two episode, “Your Good Girl’s Gonna Go Bad”. On June 7, 2016, they were also featured on The Bachelorette in an episode that aired.

The duo also collaborated with violinist, dancer, and YouTuber Lindsey Stirling on a song from her third album Brave Enough. The album was released on August 19, 2016, with the song was entitled “Those Days”.
