Celine Gounder is a physician, internist, epidemiologist, filmmaker, and medical journalist from the United States who focuses on infectious diseases and global health.

She was a member of Joe Biden’s transition team for the COVID-19 Advisory Board. Gounder was born in the United States to a Tamil Indian father and Normandy, France-born mother.

Raj Natarajan Gounder is her father, and he comes from a small village near Erode in Tamil Nadu. In 1997, she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree with a concentration in molecular biology from Princeton University.

In 2000, she graduated from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health with a Master of Science degree in epidemiology. Her thesis was titled Field evaluation of a rapid immunochromatographic test for tuberculosis.

She was working on a documentary in 2018. On November 9, she was named an individual from the Coronavirus Warning Leading group of U.S. president-elect Joe Biden. Gounder will also be an Assistant Professor at NYU’s medical school in 2021.
