Brittany Tarwater Early Life/Education
In 2005, she moved to Tennessee from Tampa, Fl. to be a part of the Lady Volunteers swim team and it’s been home ever since. Brittany says this is where she owes a lot of credit for falling in love with East Tennessee. She says she is so blessed to have been part of an incredible team lead by a very talented coach, Matt Kredich. Brittany says he deserves all the credit for her conference title and All-American honors. Most importantly, Brittany says Kredich taught her how to think and train like a champion.
While Brittany was in college she got her start in journalism as a reporter for The Vol Network, telling stories about players and coaches at UT. She also worked with an awesome team on the Enrichment Sports Source for two seasons. The host, John Pennington, was the first person to take a chance on Brittany and for that she will always be grateful to him. After she graduated, Brittany worked as a sideline reporter for a high school football combine company. She was reporting in a different corner of the country every weekend.

Brittany Tarwater Career
Sports reporting was her first love, but after some thought and reflection Brittany decided it wasn’t in her heart. In 2011, she turned in her mic for some new books and went back to school for a master’s degree in Journalism and Electronic Media at UT to focus on hard news. Brittany’s first general assignment reporting gig was at Local 8’s sister station, WYMT in Hazard, Ky. Her mornings started early as a morning co-anchor and dayside reporter.
It’s a small town, but she covered some pretty big stories from tightening EPA coal regulations to a close 2014 Senate race to 14 inches of snow that fell in two days! She says that’s a lot of snow for a Florida girl! It wasn’t long before Brittany made her way back to join the Local 8 News team in April 2015. She’s thrilled and humbled to be back on Rocky Top working with an amazing group of talented and experienced journalists who truly work to serve East Tennessee and the people like us, who call it home.
