Bellamy Young born as Amy Maria Young is an American actress and singer. She is widely known for her role as president Melody “Mellie” Grant in the ABC drama series Scandal (2012 to 2018).

He role as Millie garnered her the Critics’ Choice Television Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series.

She was born as Amy Maria Young and she was raised by her adoptive parents ever since she was six weeks old.  Her adoptive mother’s name is Jane Young while her adoptive father’s name is not known yet. She changed her name to Bellamy as a tribute to her late father’s best friend, Bill, who helped to raise her after her father died. She did this so that she could join the Screen Actors Guild as there was another Amy Young already registered.
Her birth mother loved to sing and so when she was adopted, her adoptive parents worked on fostering and naturing the love that Bellamy was developing in singing and acting. When she was fourteen, she lost her father to lung cancer and she was taken in by Bill, her father’s best friend.
She attended Asheville School and she graduated in 1987 and later enrolled at Yale University. Initially, she majored in Physics but ended up graduating in 1991 with a degree in English and Theatre. She later went on to improve her skills by spending a summer during college at the British American Drama Academy in England.

“Mellie is very Escada and very jewel-toned. We played a little bit, we tried a pantsuit this year. She’s not that daring, it’s always very classic and female-power. I’m a child of the ’80s so I love those jewel tones. I love an electric blue, I love fuchsia, I love red. I do love that, but I want to be more comfortable, I want to be more modern.
