Anne Hathaway is an American Actress born Anne Jacqueline Hathaway. She was one of the highest-paid actors in 2015. She has earned several accolades including an Academy Award, A Golden Globe, British Academy Film Award and a Primetime Emmy award. Her films are known to have earned a lot globally thus her appearance in Forbes 100 in 2009.

She started acting in plays in her high school, Millburn High School in New  Jersey. She was cast in the television series Get Real, as a teenager. Later in 2001, she played in the Disney comedy The Princess Diaries and this became her breakthrough. After this, she moved to adult roles with Havoc and Brokeback Mountain, The Devil Wears Prada, Rachel Getting Married, which got her an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress, Bride Wars, Valentine’s Day and Love & Other Drugs.

She supports several charities and is a board member of the Lollipop Theatre Network. She also advocates gender inequality as a UN Women Goodwill ambassador.

The Princess Diaries and The Other Side of Heaven, both 2001 Disney films, featured her in lead roles. The former received great praise which earned her an MTV Movie Award for Best Breakthrough Female Performance nomination for the former role. The latter was considered a box office failure and received negative reviews.

In 2002, she starred in the City Center Encores!, a concert production of Carnival! in her first New York stage performance. The performance was an absolute success and received several positive reviews. She won a Clarence Derwent Award for Most Promising Female for the same. Later, she voiced the audiobook release of the first three books in The Princess Diaries novels.

Over the next three years, she became known in mainstream media as a children’s role model as she appeared in family-oriented films. She moved from voicing Haru Yoshioka for the English version of The Cat Returns in 2002 to starring in Nicholas Nickleby in the same year which also received positive reviews. In 2004 she played in Ella Enchanted which was a failure in the box-office. She was cast in ‘Knocked Up’, but dropped out before filming began because she was uncomfortable with the use of real footage of a woman giving birth. The only film she played in 2007 was the biographical romantic drama Becoming Jane. While filming, she split the flesh of her shin leading to her getting 15 stitches. The film was a success. After this, her following film, Passengers, was a failure. She then starred in Rachel Getting Married to Debra Winger. She gathered great recognition for her performance and an Academy Award for Best Actress and a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress – Drama.

Anne Hathaway starred in Bride Wars in 2009 which was named among the 10 worst chick flicks of all time by Time in 2010. Despite this, it was financially successful and earned her an MTV Movie Award for Best Female Performance nomination. She then played in a production of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night in New York. For her performance in the play, she received a nomination for the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Actress in a Play. She won the Saturn Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance. In Les Misérables, she played Fantine, a prostitute dying of tuberculosis. For the film, she won an Academy, a Golden Globe, a Screen Actors Guild and a BAFTA Award for Best Supporting Actress.
